Up for sale is a rare antique Japanese Mitsuore (three-jointed) doll. Dating back to the late Edo period (around the Bakumatsu era). This exceptional piece features a moveable head that turns left and right, which is highly unusual and rare for Mitsuore dolls. It has beautiful glass eyes and still retains its original hair, which is remarkable for a doll of this age. The doll is fully articulated, capable of sitting in seiza (kneeling), kneeling on knees, and standing upright. Kimono: It wears its original antique kimono. The undergarment features beautiful traditional Benibana (safflower) dye with Shibori (tie-dye) patterns. ### Condition: Very Good Antique Condition This doll has been well-preserved with no fatal or major damage. Face/Body: There is a small chip on the tip of the nose and some minor chipping around the neck. General: There is some light accumulation of dirt and signs of aging, typical for an authentic piece from this era. This cute 19 Doll dressed as a sailor boy was imported from Japan by Morimura Brothers. During WW1 German dolls were not available for sale in the USA. This company supplied dolls resembling German Dolls from 1915 – 1926. The bisque head is marked with MB, Japan, 4. No chips, cracks or hairlines or wig pulls. Blue Stationary eyes with painted lower lashes. Blonde Human Hair Wig. The ball-jointed composition body has been repainted and is in very good condition other than some slight damage to the neck area (please see picture). The doll is dressed in newer sailor style clothes which were popular for children and dolls during the early 1900’s. The white leather doll shoes are the German-style doll shoe with the broader toe area. From a smoke-free and pet-free home. Please examine the pictures as they are part of the description. This charming little lady is a fantastic example of 1920s-1930s Japanese export dolls that captured hearts worldwide. Height : Approximately 5.5 inches tall. Material : All-bisque construction (head, torso, arms, and legs). Marking : Clearly stamped “MADE IN JAPAN” on the upper back (see photos). Features : Jointed arms at the shoulders, molded blonde hair with darling blue bows, sweet painted facial features with rosy cheeks, blue eyes, and a gentle smile. Painted white socks and reddish-brown Mary Jane style shoes.
