Just a fantastic find for any doll collection… Measuring about 26 tall. (see 8th photo with ruler) this darling, early plastic KEWPIE doll has huge side-glancing painted eyes , small pug nose, closed smiling mouth, blushed cheeks and strung arms with perfect “starfish” shaped, chubby hands and straight legs molded together with flat feet covered by his original blue, silk-type slippers. He has adorable molded and detailed wings at his shoulders and is signed on his back. Within a raised triangle & rising sun motif, Made in Japan in raised letters, possibly for Kokusai, Tokyo. Kewpie has molded tufts of hair over each ear, at the back and topknot with good detail. He was wearing an over-size, child’s, vintage gown and bonnet when found and has been lovingly redressed in this absolutely adorable, infant size, rose flowered onesie (with the snap closure tucked underneath). His arms will need to be restrung as the original stringing elastic has disintegrated. He has no cracks or breaks although there are several areas of original or very old re-glue on a few seams. Although his silk slippers have never been removed there may be a small chip on one foot, original to his manufacture. He has been well cared for and absolutely amazing to think that he has survived for all these years.
