Here we have a great vintage hand made hand painted Geisha doll. It looks like it is porcelain but very close inspection shows it’s cloth over wood or painted wood it is pourious and not glass and the heads is firm to the touch I did not investigate any further for fear of damaging them. I don’t see anything else like it. The owner was a career Air Force sergeant. Traveled all over the world. According to the estate these were being backs from Japan when he was stationed there during Vietnam. I have 2 different ones available. The other one is listed separately. If anyone has any additional information?? would love to here it and add it to the listing. These are Super Rare and high quality. The cases are glass and hard wood. Not thin glass either. See pics for condition detail. The cases are 24×11″ and the doll is roughly 17″. Please don’t ask. Weekends and Holidays being an exception. This piece was designed by well-known kokeshi doll maker – Tasuo Kato – who has won numerous top awards in Japan for his sosaku creations, including the most prestigious Prime Minister’s Award. She measures 7″ high, and 10″ in circumference around her head. Her name is “Naisho” which roughly translates to “Secret”. The artist is known for high quality, hand crafted dolls. This kokeshi’s kimono features interesting designs with blue, red and green flowers. Each design contains many tiny divots carved into the wood to give this piece extra depth and texture. She has such a sweet face, framed by her hair pulled up into a decorated top knot. The artist’s red stamp/chop is on the bottom. Please see below for flaws. This kokeshi doll is in good vintage condition – hard to find many flaws – and she would make a great addition to your growing collection. White areas are camera glare. Please remember that this is a vintage kokeshi that may have minor imperfections, such as dust/dirt/dings/scratches/scuffs/age spots. This is a vintage Japanese doll created by the Shinzenbi Ningyo Kenkyusho , as indicated by the writing on the base in gold lettering seen in the photos. Dolls from this workshop are collectible examples of Japanese traditional dolls, often made for display or as artistic decor. Dress: The doll is dressed in an elaborate, layered kimono featuring silk fabric with gold and silver embroidery, geometric and floral patterns, and wide sleeves. The embroidery contains traditional motifs, and the colour palette consists of pink, brown, gold, and green. Hairstyle: Her hairstyle is an ornate, elaborate wig decorated with hair ornaments (kanzashi) and floral motifs, which is characteristic of noble or ceremonial dolls. Posture: The doll stands on a wooden base, with both hands posed gracefully in front of her. Material: The face and hands are made from silk fabric, with finely painted details. This doll is a fine example of Japanese artisan craftsmanship and would be considered a desirable collector’s item, particularly among enthusiasts of Asian or Japanese cultural art dolls.
