For sale is a vintage/old wooden Bunraku puppet head. The puppet head depicts a Japanese female that was carved from wood. The head tilts in an “up-and-down” motion from the handle. The eyes are meant to move “open-and-shut”. Because of an internal mechanical issue, the string used to control the eyes is not functioning properly. Note: Two different shaped holes are located on the right side of the handle. I don know if the holes are intended for string(s) used to assist with the movement, or if the holes are used to assist with securing clothing/costumes. The head can be removed from the neck by removing two small dowel rods (see the third to the last photograph, and look on her neck near her hair). The original paint on her head and hair has chips of paint missing throughout (see photos). This item has never been refurbished, never repaired, and never restored. Japanese lettering is located on the handle (see photos). Overall size, from the bottom of the handle to the top of her head: 13 inches. From the bottom of her neck to the top of her head: 6-1/2 inches. The width of her head: 4 inches. Length of the handle: 6-1/2 inches.
