This #5 Blonde Ponytail Barbie just seems to have it all. She definitely has all the qualities of an icon. This gal has survived the years well, with sultry make-up and an extra long ponytail! This pretty gal comes with a repo 35th Anniversary box, but her original swimsuit, black open toe heels, cats-eye sunglasses, Barbie and Ken booklet, and black wire stand are all original. Barbie has striking make-up with a retouch to the top of her lipstick. She has quite a bit of smokey eyeshadow still. Her eyebrows had rubs, so they have been color-washed. She doesn’t have any green ear stains or extra earring holes. She has a fairly wide face, so I think she might be from later in 1961, as the face molds get a little bigger the more they’re used. I noticed she has the tiniest scratch on top of her nose; the scratch is about an 1/8 above the nose tip. The tip of her nose is intact and beautiful. I look at the dolls super close up, and this is barely visible. You will probably would not notice it unless you look with a magnifier; I didn’t until I was gently cleaning dust off of her face. Barbie has loads of thick curly bangs. A few strands of her bangs want to hang down in the center of her forehead, like Bild Lilli’s! She has nice glossy blonde hair that has been retied into a topknot with a hard curl at the bottom. She isn’t missing any hair plugs, and her ponytail is nice and thick. Barbie has the earlier hollow body marked BarbieR, Pats. MCMLVIII, by Mattel, on her right butt cheek. Her left butt cheek has a no. Her body is in Near Mint condition with no stains and very little play wear. She has all of her nail polish. Her joints are tight. I notice a tiny dark pin point speck on the back of her right calf, toward the inside of her leg. Her original swimsuit looks good; it has a stitch loosening at the center seam at the waist. There’s some light soil on the butt, and a little near the left side of the top (left in the pic). The top’s elastic has loosened a bit over time, so the top doesn’t stay up quite as securely as it should. The metal wire stand is in Near Mint shape; it has all of its enamel. The blue Barbie and Ken booklet is in Excellent shape, the cover has light creasing. The white catseye sunglasses are in great shape, though they don’t look like they open up wide enough for Barbie’s head. (I would use extreme caution in trying to put them on Barbie’s head). Her black heels are marked Japan on the bottom of the right shoe. As the pics show, the reproduction box looks pretty good; there’s a tiny ding on the left long side of the lid, at the head of the Evening Splendor figure. There’s a small square of glue residue from scotch tape? At the feet of the figure wearing Winter Holiday, and there’s a little “fuzz” clinging to the glue residue. But it doesn’t look bad. The box is correctly marked Blonde on the bottom end. Barbie will look lovely displaying vintage fashions, or just hanging out in her 35th Anniversary Box.
