This is a pretty little antique china head doll that hails from the island of Japan around the turn of the last century, 1900 to 1920. She comes with pretty pearl earrings she is made of bisque porcelain, as are her arms and legs. Someone painted her boots an iridescent green at some point, and luckily, her gown covers those, so no one will get retina burn from them! We suspect those were a modern addition to the doll, and someone was trying to match a former outfit! The doll has wonderful blonde hair and it is arranged beautifully, with coils of hair in the back and a curl on her forehead. She is wearing a bastiste gown, featuring what almost looks like a “watered-silk” print of pink flowers and foliage on an off-white background. It is so pretty! The green ribbon belt matches the green in the dress perfectly and sets everything off. The doll also wears an antique slip and pantalettes. She is the perfect cabinet size to fit on a shelf, tuck into a cupboard, or sit into larger doll’s arms. You simply must choose her today as your holiday surprise for yourself! Antique Victorian HERTWIG CHINA HEAD DOLL LOT Bisque Boy Girl Pair 1800s Toy
Antique 1800s Victorian Porcelain Bisque Doll Lot. Boy & Girl, 7” These two dolls came to me together. They may be Hertwig dolls or Nippon dolls. The last photo shows a Hertwig catalog with the same girl’s head. Yet I think the back of her neck may say Japan, which might indicate Nippon would have to check. I have noticed that the Japanese copied many German dolls and dollhouse items at that time. The pair are very sweet together! Both have porcelain heads, hands and feet. The bodies are handstitched. They are dressed in underclothing, and this is worn and has holes. They likely originally had clothing over this. The girl wears finely knit bloomers which flare outward at the cuffs, with a low neckline. She wears two blue bows in her hair. Both dolls are blonde with blue eyes. Their feet have painted reddish brown shoes. The bisque is stained and has paint loss. Please see photos for condition and measurements. Listing is for two dolls and does not include other items. LARGE ANTIQUE CHINA DOLL WITH WONDERFUL LACE TRIMMED DRESS. Circa: 1970’s – Made In Japan. This doll is from a smoke free home and has no odors. Does she make a statement? – you bet she does! This large china is 25 inches tall. She has an old cloth body. I have not undressed her. She wears lace trimmed silk like pantaloons (see photo); black slip; and a terrific hand made dress with antique lace trim. Notice the beaded accent piece.
