Original Kokeshi “Michinoku Oyako” by Master Hideo Ishihara (The Prime Minister’s Award winning artist). In ancient times, Japan’s north-eastern Tohoku region was known as “Michinoku” – meaning “The end of the road” and “Oyako” means “Parent and child”. Vintage from the 1970s. 2 figures, Height 21.3/16.8cm. Master Ishihara originally registered as a traditional Narugo Kokeshi Kijishi following the tradition after his grandfather Iwataro Onuma, but he found himself too restricted. He fell ill for more than ten years and he used this time to study painting and when he recovered he began his transition to Sosaku Kokeshi. Winning over 60 awards including The Prime Minister Prize.
