Stunning Vintage 1959 Pale Blonde # 2 Ponytail Barbie TM 850 Japan MIB. All original, no repainting or retouching. Nice even soft ivory pink complexion from head to toe. From what I’ve read, this is a trait of the early dolls that circulated Southern California only? She does not have the holes in the bottom of the feet, as this is the # 2 Ponytail. Beautiful blonde factory hair set with original top knot. The bottom band disintegrated but the hair still retains the original shape, never brushed or tampered with. It is interesting to note that the bangs are rolled under instead of the more commonly seen poodle curls. This hairstyle was very popular in the 1950s. It has a certain Audrey Hepburn / Debbie Reynolds inspiration to it. No hair cuts or rerooting. This may have been a store display doll or used for promotional purposes? Original gold hoop earrings. No green ears or discolorations. Makeup is factory original and just stunning! Beautiful bright blue eye shadow, black eyeliner, and cherry red lipstick, that was ever so popular in the 1950s. Original black and white striped maillot swimsuit, blue / white cat eye sunglasses, and black open toe shoes with holes in the bottom (marked Japan), in mint condition. Booklet showcasing all of the fashions and accessories of 1959. Cherry red nails and toe nails. Barbie TM mark on derriere. Black Pedestal stand with Barbie T. No chips or cracks. There are two round circles on the top of the pedestal where the prongs would have been placed for the # 1 stand. This is definitely a factory mark, not a flaw. M Box with the early fashions of 1959 depicted. Beautiful bright graphics including Gay Parisienne, Easter Parade, and Evening Splendor, among others. Excellent condition, one corner has a split. Original tissue paper inside. Bottom is marked Blonde. Original price sticker intact. Barbie and all of her original accessories are in superb condition for a doll of this age. She does have some minor surface scratches to the body which all vintage Barbie dolls have. The body has the lovely crayon smell all the first three ponytail dolls are reputed to have. There is a light stain from the shoes that many of the ponytail dolls have after years of wearing their shoes. It is however a great indication of a vintage doll. You’d be hard pressed to find a nicer example in all original condition. There may only be a handful of these dolls out there in existence (with this particular hairstyle and rare pink complexion + all of the original accessories and box) making her a true rarity in the Barbie collecting world.
