An all-original (A/O) brunette #4 Ponytail Barbie — coveted for her heavy body (a solid torso); Crayola crayon fragrance oh-la-la-la! ; pert nipples; defined ribcage; tight extremities and excellent balance i. When she’s posing on her doll stand; come-hither, side-glancing blue eyes; smoky brown eyeshadow above powder-blue eyeshadow and sexy black mascara; raven tresses (top knot present), lots of flyaway hairs, no hard curl at ponytail’s end (where there is a replacement rubber band) — but abundant soft poodle curls are above her high forehead. This statuesque vintage vixen has no green ear. Her ears are pierced, but she lost her original pearl earrings or gold hoops a long time ago. After acquiring this Barbie doll, I inserted safe faux-pearl (plastic) earrings. They are repro and match her original graduated “pearl” necklace. The necklace is not original to the doll, but it is the Mattel original. It is in very good condition, with the customary fragility around the catch. I will place the necklace in a secure Ziploc or tiny jewelry box when it is time to pack the doll and all clothing, accessories (including her black “Kaiser Chicago”-imprinted doll stand). Please refer to my detailed condition description at the top of the listing. I consider this Ponytail Barbie to be in excellent vintage condition, but she is not perfect. And as an authentic early-vintage doll that at one time was a young girl’s plaything, she should not be perfect. Under “Condition, ” you will read about the pinpricks (7 to 8 of them) on the right side of her neck; the scattered small yellow age spots (they are not green) on her lower torso (front and back) and legs; typical minor surface scratches here and there; and a few black flecks including on the palms of her hands. The black flecks are age-related dirt. I do not wash vintage dolls; rather, I gently apply a slightly damp cloth to areas of doll’s face and body. Babs’ fingernail paint is about 95% on both hands. She has no nicks, no bites and no missing digits. And, her hair has never been trimmed. Further, she has no missing hair plugs. Her “scalp” is flocked, as a #4 Ponytail’s head should be. Her flocking is of brunette hair. Of course, a Barbie of this vintage has flyaway hairs from the doll being repeatedly dressed over the past 59 years. This is not a mint doll. She is not for the picky collector. She was not simply gazed at, but gently loved. She survived and is 100% authentic. My guess from the yellow spots and dirt flecks is that in her distant history she was stored improperly. Original vintage-Barbie OT shoes in black (“JAPAN” on sole of left mule). An extra left OT shoe in black (original vintage-Barbie mule, stamped “JAPAN”). It is good to have on hand, so to speak. One (1) original vintage-Barbie graduated “pearl” necklace — which is an accessory in many vintage-Barbie ensembles. It looks nearly ivory-colored the way a real vintage pearl necklace has turned! One (1) pair of safe “pearl” earrings. Rather than possessing a metal stem, each earring contains a plastic filament that is sturdy — yet gentle — enough to thread into the doll’s ear piercing. Three (3) original vintage-Barbie sheath dresses from the early 1960s: an apple sheath dress (Barbie “R” tag, not “TM”), a medium-blue dress w/white polka dots, a rust dress w/white polka dots. All of these lovely dresses have working closures. The dress fabric is no longer bright, a quality that I find charming because it lends character to the dresses. However, these items are not for those collectors who prefer mint and/or minty doll garments only. The dresses are not fragile, but the new owner is advised to handle vintage doll clothing with care, as one would vintage/recycled human clothing. One (1) vintage reproduction (mid-1990s) of the Easter Parade dress coat. The original coat is hard to find, and quite expensive when found. The repro coat that you see pictured has about four (4) pinholes where the coat once was attached to the packaging. Those pinholes only can be seen up close and with great scrutiny. Good to note: the coat is impeccably clean; I acquired it and the repro short white gloves (see below) from a highly reputable supplier. One (1) pair of vintage-reproduction Easter Parade short white gloves. One (1) new haute-couture pillbox hat in black, with black netted veil, designed by Yoly. This 1:6 scale chapeau features an exquisite decoration, at top rear, that incorporates one faux pearl. That “pearl” accent is harmoniously. Cohesive with Barbie’s jewelry set ensemble. One (1) pair of white panties (aged to off-white). Today we would call these “boy shorts, ” but back when Mattel Inc. Produced the lingerie “paks” for the 1959 and early 1960s Barbie dolls, they were panties. This pair of delicates, with the unmistakable accordion-like ribbing, have very good elastic. Please check out the photo in which the panties cling to Babs’ curves. Two (2) original vintage-Barbie Mattel Inc. Manufactured paper accessories, both marked “JAPAN” at rear bottom. One is a “Date Book” with black cover. Inside are pages with sections for name, address and telephone number. The first two pages have heavy wear from the pages previously having stuck together. Despite that flaw, the “Date Book” is an extremely rare, VVHTF original Barbie accessory. The other paper item — and also quite rare and VVHTF — is a memo pad (stamped “Memo” on its front cover). I snapped a photo of lovely Barbie holding both items in her left hand. Yes, she’s ready to take names! I love, collect and curate early-vintage Barbie — and certain niches of antique dolls — for my private collection. Frustratingly, situations often arise where there is no provenance available.
