Some say it’s tough to be an icon, but it doesn’t appear that way for our classic blonde beauty! Here’s a lovely #5 Blonde Barbie Ponytail from 1961, complete with all of her original accessories! Barbie has her original black/white swimsuit, black open toe mules, black enamel wire stand, blue Barbie and Ken fashion booklet , and of course white cats eye sunglasses. Everything here is original vintage Mattel except for the 35th Anniversary Repro Box, which is a great way to display or store Barbie until she decides which outfit to wear. This Barbie’s hair has been retied into the original style with a hard curl at the bottom of the ponytail. Her tomato red lips had a little rubbing on top and her eyebrows were faded, so she has been retouched with water based acrylic paint. She also got a little acrylic color wash for blush. Any of the restoration work is removable with soap and water if you don’t like it. She looks vibrant and fresh like she did 59 years ago! Barbie has a slightly wider face mold typical of later 1961 dolls. Her face hasn’t darkened or discolored from smoke or other environmental things. She has a little bit of shine to her face, but doesn’t have any greasiness to her skin. Her curly bangs are the wiry, filament type hair used in #5 dolls. Her ponytail is nice and thick, and her light blonde hair is glossy. As mentioned above, Barbie’s brows were faded, so they have been retouched. Her lips had some rubbing on the top, so they were also refreshed with water-based acrylic paint. She was given a hint of blush also. All of the restoration work is removable with soap and water if you don’t like it. Barbie doesn’t have any green ear stains, and she wears pearl on filament earrings so that there’s no danger of staining. Barbie has 2 faint extra tap marks at her left ear’s earring hole, only 1 shows if you look super close with the pearl earring in. Her right ear has a faint tap mark 1/2 way between the lowest point of her hairline and her earring hole. She has a barely visible tap mark also on her right ear’s top of the lobe. These don’t really show up in my close-up pics, and I can only see them at a range of about 6-9. No neck splits or nose nips. Barbie has the earlier hollow body, which is marked “Barbie, Pats Pend, cMCMLVIII, by Mattel Inc” on her right butt cheek. Her left butt cheek is marked with a number 7. She has all of her nail polish, and her body doesn’t have any stains, chews or poke marks. She does have a pin point dark speck on the back of her left shoulder. Her joints hold all poses. Her left shoulder blade has some faint scratching, but most of her torso looks scratch free. Her original swimsuit is in Excellent condition with no holes or runs. The white stripes are a little aged and greyish, but it should still display well. The elastic at the suit’s top is a little stretched out, but it will stay up. Her black open toe mules are marked Japan on the bottom of the right shoe, and both have splits in the straps. The white cats eye sunglasses are in good shape with tight arms; one lens has a pressure mark, but the lenses are intact. The sunglasses are the Pak Accessories version; they have worn gold glitter and pink on the brow line. The blue Barbie and Ken fashion booklet is good shape with slight wrinkling to the cover. There is a number 5 written lightly in pen on the cover, and some stray pen marks inside by some of the outfits, but the outfit graphics and descriptions are unmarked. The black enamel wire stand is pretty nice and mostly shiny; there’s a little wear on the enamel on the vertical part near the arms’ weld. It will display Barbie securely. The 35th Anniversary Reproduction box is in nice clean shape and is marked Blond on the lid. It will display Barbie nicely. The box lid looks bright and new. This pretty blonde will be a stunning model in your vintage Barbie collection!
