Creative Style Kokeshi Doll by Sansaku Sekiguchi 12.5 tall Tsuya Japan vintage
His work is now even more valuable posthumously! He was awarded 3 times by The Prime Minister and also by the Minister of Trade and Industry. (see long list of his awards over his career in photos). I believe this doll dates to the 1970s. Her title is “Tsuya” meaning luster or softness. This doll features a unique blue-gray color kimono illustrated in a soft stripe design with a complimentary black & silver check obi. A fine red line is the rim color near her gorgeous face. Her lips are delicate red lines, her eyes so intriguing and her hair, with “widows peak”, in a solid black top knot with a hair comb – the top of comb is broken off but does not distract from the beauty of the doll. The comb is natural wood which adds an unbelievable elegance and uniqueness to this piece!!!! Signed wooden plaque included. Doll also has red Artist’s stamp on back, not bottom. The doll measures 12.5″ H x 4″ W and weighs 2 lbs. The doll is representative of Japanese culture and is perfect for collectors who appreciate the beauty of Japanese Art. What was once made for children as toys, Kokeshi are now considered high end decor /. This Kokeshi doll is in overall great shape and has it’s original labeled title stand.
