This Japanese doll is a beautiful representation of traditional Japanese folk craft. The doll stands at 20 inches tall and wears a stunning kimono, depicting a geisha or maiko. Handmade in Japan, this doll was obtained in Biwa, Shiga-Ken, outside of Kyoto, and is a wonderful addition to any collection of Asian or Japanese culture. The doll has not been modified and is in very good condition. This traditional Japanese musical instrument is an essential part of their performance during banquets and parties. The tsuzumi has a distinctive shape, resembling an hourglass, and is played by striking it with the hands or using drumsticks. This doll is on a stand measuring 12 x 9.5 inches. There is no glass case. Would be a nice addition to any collection. Doll was part of a gift to students participating on the Michigan on lake Biwa in 1982. The brass plate on the bass documents the project.
