This stunning brunette #4 Ponytail Barbie from 1960 is quite the vamp! Though she seems a little bit pouty, she knows how to sashay down the catwalk: She’s in Excellent condition with all of her vintage original accessories! She comes with her original zebra swimsuit, shiny black wire stand, black open toe Japan mules, a pink Barbie and Ken fashion booklet and of course white cats eye sunglasses. To show her off best, she comes in a 35th Anniversary repro box, so you can display her just as she would have looked in 1960. Everything here is vintage except for the 35th Anniversary box. This beauty is in excellent condition; she has a nice light skin tone that hasn’t turned dark or tan. Her original brows were rubbed, so they were color washed. Her red lips also had some rubbing, so they too have been retouched with water based acrylic. Her blush is also enhanced with acrylic wash. She doesn’t have any green ear stains, nose nips, or neck tears. Her hair was retied into the original set with a hard curl at the ponytail bottom. Her black hair has nice shine, and she has very full ringlet “poodle” bangs. She doesn’t have any missing hair plugs. She has some nice smokey eyeshadow that is also done with water-based acrylic. She has a wider face than some #4’s I’ve seen. Her solid vinyl body is in very good condition, though it has some factory flaws from the mold. She doesn’t have any stains or finger chews, and she has all of her nail polish. She has a dark speck smaller than a pinhead, at the left side of her neck at the shoulder, see the 8th pic for a close-up. There was an air bubble in her mold at the neck rim, so there is a smaller than a pinhead spot at the neck rim that wasn’t full, see the 9th pic. She does have one arm that is slightly longer than the other, which I didn’t notice until I photographed her. The top of her right thigh is a bit roughly formed and not smoothly round; I think this is from the leg not coming out of the mold correctly, or maybe the mold was not filled all the way. She has a few tiny bumps in the vinyl around the top side of the right thigh and just under her butt. She has 4 small dimples on the back of her right calf, they are the size of pinheads, but they are NOT poke marks. #4 dolls often have “cellulite”, and this doll also has an indent along the front of her right shin, just below the knee. The front of her left ankle has a small scratch 1/16 long. I will note that her legs are slightly more tan from mid-thigh down to her feet, which is quite common, and I think it is a result of being held around the legs, and the oils from the original owner’s hands. It’s not a huge difference, but it is there. Her rear end is stamped on the right butt cheek: Barbie TM, Pats. CMCMLVIII, by Mattel Inc. On the left butt cheek, I can barely see a 14 mold mark. Barbie’s original zebra swimsuit is in Near Mint shape, it’s pretty clean with good elastic! The pink Barbie and Ken booklet is intact with all pages, but the front and back cover are a little wrinkled. There are some small x’s and check marks by the outfits on the original owner’s shopping list. Barbie’s black open toe mules are marked Japan on the bottom of the right shoe. Her white sunglasses are in Near Mint shape, and her black wire stand is Near Mint and shiny. The repro 35th Anniversary Box is marked Brunette on the bottom and is crisp and new looking. This doll is a lovely example of a #4 Ponytail, and she will be a star in your vintage doll collection!
