I believe this doll dates to the 1970s. Her title is “Tsuya” meaning luster or softness. This doll features a unique blue-gray color kimono illustrated in a soft stripe design with a complimentary black & silver check obi. A fine red line is the rim color near her gorgeous face. Her lips are delicate red lines, her eyes so intriguing and her hair, with “widows peak”, in a solid black top knot with a hair comb – the top of comb is broken off but does not distract from the beauty of the doll. The comb is natural wood which adds an unbelievable elegance and uniqueness to this piece!!!! Signed wooden plaque included. Doll also has red Artist’s stamp on back, not bottom. None of the marks detract from the beauty of this piece. The paint is in fantastic condition. It’s super vibrant and the glitter paint accent is exquisite. Google translates one word as “Sendai”. Tall black top-knot, cone-shaped. Brown & Tan Wood. Weighs about 8.5 oz. These came from the aunt of my friend. The aunt was a missionary overseas and died in 1978. She was in Pusan and Seoul much of my friend’s childhood, so a good guess is that these are from some time in the late 60’s until 1978. For a fun story about the aunt, when one of the huge underground tunnels from the North was discovered and the families of the servicemen were evacuated stateside, she and a chaplain chose to remain to do what they could in case of an invasion. This is all the known history of them. Check out other cute Kokeshi dolls I’m listing! Check out my feedback! Smoke-free and pet-free home. Given time I will leave you feedback too!
