1963 #7 Ponytail Barbie & #11 Midge, with’62 Case & Clothes/Accessories, New Pics
Lot includes two vintage dolls, one case, and multiple pieces of clothing and accessories as shown in first three photos and as described below. SEE ALL PHOTOS, including two new ones added June 10. See Barbie’s description below. All of the items were pre-owned when they were given to me in the early 1970s. They have been stored in their case in an interior closet since the 1980s. In the decades I have owned them, they have been in smoke-free households always. Description of Items Included in this Lot. 1963 #7 Ponytail Barbie. Stands 11.5 high. Has long strawberry blonde hair. When not held together in a ponytail, Barbie’s hair parts to each side, leaving rear scalp exposed. June 10 edit: I found a small rubber band with which to give Barbie back her pony tail. The bald spot is mostly covered (see 2 new pics) and a better hair stylist could likely improve upon this. Bangs are crusty with tiny flakes of gold plastic singed, perhaps? Body appears tanned, but some of that is soiling. Arms and legs move; head tilts right and left. JAPAN imprinted on bottom of right foot. Branding on doll: Midge Pats. Pend, MCMLVIII, by Mattel Inc. And the number 11. Has chin-length, titian-colored hair. Lipstick is faint on lower lip. Body has a tanned appearance. 1962 “Ponytail” Case with plastic handle, registered TM Lic. Measures 12.5″ x 10.5″ x 2.75. Black vinyl exterior and an ecru interior with three compartments. Case has maintained its overall structure and is without tears. It has all of its rivets and a working, rust-free clasp. It does, however, have various blemishes throughout, of the kind typically found on old vinyl, such as rough spots, paint-rubbed areas, small superficial scratches, and marks at the corners. There is an 8 white’rough’ smear going across the rear of the case (see photo). I thought it was tape residue, but I tried a couple of cleaning products and couldn’t remove it, so I came to the conclusion the vinyl there is permanently damaged. The interior has a few stray marks but is relatively clean. Clothing : Black, shoulderless evening gown that is disintegrating (see black specks visible on white poster board); white satin and chiffon wedding dress (Barbie label) that is soiled and shows wear at armholes; red long-sleeved flapper’s dress with pleats, white lacy trim, and Peggy Ann label; classic red one-piece swimsuit; blue shoulderless summer dress; and hot pink sleeveless satin gown with floral trim homemade? Accessories : 1 green Barbie hanger, 1 black purse, 1 pair green heels, 1 pair white heels (both with crack on top of shoe), 1 pair black heels, and 1 black stiletto (for left foot), 1 pair white opera gloves, and 1 pair of panties. Each doll will arrive wearing one of said pieces of clothing. I will wrap the black gown separately in tissue to corral the black specks that the dress will inevitably shed during transport.
