[About Hauko (Crawling Baby Gosho Doll) /] “Hauko” (literally “crawling child”) is a classic and traditional form of Japanese Gosho Doll, depicting an infant crawling on all fours. Originally created during the Edo period, these dolls were cherished as protective talismans to ward off evil spirits and wish for the healthy growth and happiness of children. Due to their delicate crafting process-using a carved wooden core finished with layers of fine white shell powder (gofun)-well-preserved Hauko dolls are extremely scarce today. Rare Large Size: Hauko dolls were typically made in smaller sizes. Finding an authentic antique Hauko of this substantial size in such good condition is remarkably rare and highly desirable for collectors. Condition: Exceptional state for its age and size. Some of the original hair still remains on the sides of the head. Only minor scuffs on the toes. No major cracks or chips.
