ARTICLE FROM INTERNET : VINTAGE BARBIE “EVENING SPLENDOUR” RARE EARLY VARIATION. Never Previously Described to my Knowledge! I have recently learned of this through the noted Barbie restorationist and amazing artist Fabienne Martinez (people also refer to her as Lolaxs)! She is the one who made this discovery years ago and posted some photos in 2012 when she acquired one of these rare outfits. Lolaxs actually was the one who solved the mystery by comparing the lily flower to the one that is on the 1st edition Ponytail #1. At first glance, the rare variation print looks like the more common Evening Splendor that was first produced in 1959, but when you see the two prints next to each other, you will see the rare variation print has a different flower pattern. The rare variation print has more flowers and two different types of flowers in the fabric pattern. There is a lily and a daisy-type flower that are not on the more common Evening Splendor outfit. Although the fabric is similar to the common version, the quality is better. The rare variation fabric is thicker and there is an obvious depth to the print and the metallic threads have a richer gold. Vintage Barbie #961 Evening Splendor outfit in NM condition. 1 Gold Jacket Rare Label- NM. Fur is in amazing condition. 2 Gold Sheath Dress – NM (same). Gold iridescence is still very bright. 3 Green Purse – NM and still latches. 4 Original Brown Pumps-Japan. 5 White pearl necklace. 6 White gloves – NM. Missing handkerchief, headband and earrings.

Vintage Barbie Doll Evening Gala Fashion 1660 from 1966 With Japan Shoes- Complete The full length brocade overdress is lined in aqua satin and is split all the way up the front of the lined dress which can be worn with either the aqua satin skirt or ruffled hem bell bottom pants. The brocade appears to have some worn areas around the neckline and arm holes. All pieces look pretty clean. But please zoom in on the photos in case I’ve missed something. Vintage Barbie Doll 850 Brunette Bubble Cut 961 Evening Splendor EUC C20

Beautiful 850 Bubble Cut Doll with dark brown colored hair. She has pink lips, matching fingernails and most of toe nails. No neck splits, no missing fingers, no green ears. Typical age spots to legs. One foot turns inward. She is wearing the 961 Evening Splendor Outfit, Not Complete. Pearls missing from hat. Both doll and outfit is in great to excellent condition. Used item – Zoom in photos. There may be wear or damage that I cannot see or that I do not know to look for. I will be listing all of my inherited fashion dolls & accessories over time. If you can tell me about a piece I have offered, please reach out and talk to me about it. Clothing is in a clean state, although stains, missing snaps, holes and stretched out elastic is to be expected. Vintage Barbie No. 850 #3 Barbie Ponytail Brunette with #983 Enchanted Evening

This lovely doll comes from the Charles Mo collection, and was acquired from his estate following his passing in 2019. For more information on Charles Mo, please scroll further down. This #3 doll features blue eyeliner, and hair that has been restyled into a bun (forgive me, I don’t know the exact name of this style). She’s in wonderful original condition with no obvious signs of having been played with and no ear greening. The clothing is in great shape overall as well, although the earrings are missing the dangling diamonds. A handkerchief is included as well, but it does have light stains. The dress is very nice as well, with only minor imperfections. Overall, a fantastic early Barbie that’ll fit into any discerning collector’s collection. The Late Charles Mo was Curator of the Mint Museums’ Fashion Collection & Longest Serving Director of Fine Arts Mr. Mo’s accomplishments in the world of Fashion span more than his 30 years tenure in the museum world. Charles built the fashion collection of the Mint to over 10,000 articles of couture clothing, millinery, shoes, fans and jewelry by the time of his retirement in 2013. He is remembered for his fashion exhibits, including Life & Legend, CHANEL: Designs for the Modern Woman, Fashionable Silhouettes, and Dior, Balmain, Saint Laurent: Elegance & Ease.
