Original 1961 Brunette Flock-Haired Ken (#750) with Box and Doll Case. This year, Mattel marked Ken’s 60th birthday with a special reproduction release. But this is your opportunity to own the original from 1961! This vintage, brunette Ken comes with the original flocked (or “fuzzy head”) hair design, which was later replaced with painted molded plastic. I’ve included a picture of his markings, which say Ken T. While the dolls appears to be a first edition, it’s possible that the box and outfit are later, because I believe the first edition swimsuit had a white stripe and didn’t include the robe. The joints are firm, but the torso is a lighter color than the head, arms and legs. There are no neck splits or bite marks, and the flocking is in really good condition except for a small thinning spot just above his right temple. However, there is a slight red streak on his right thigh. The box has the wear you might expect from 60 years and is in reasonably good shape, except for the bottom right corner of the cover box where there are splitting issues. The Ponytail wardrobe case is also from 1961, as in really good shape except for minor scuffing. The handle and hardware on the top look practically brand new. From the pictures, you can see that the left side of the case is indented. The cardboard drawers also have some staining issues. This doll comes with everything you see in the picture, including swim trunks, robe, box, stand and original brochure, plus the 1961 wardrobe box. This item comes from my mother’s personal.
